Velingradis a wonderful town located about 80km from Plodiv on the western slopes of the Rhodope Mountain. Surrounded by exotic scenes of nature and 70 sources of mineral water the town has its own name and fame all across the world. It is known to be one of the best destinations for those looking forward to enjoy and relax in natural surroundings. The Tsepina Fortress dates to the 12th century and served as the administrative and political center during the Middle Ages.
Velingrad is also known for being home to the largest karst spring in the country. The karst spring is known as Kleptuza and the water is supplied to two ponds. The mineral water springs found around Velingrad are used for different purposes. The hottest water can be found in the area of Kamentsa. The History Museum in the city also houses a number of exhibits giving visitors details about the region. The town also serves as a good base for exploring other attractions that are within close reach like the Sarnitsa dam, Lepenitsa cave and PobitKamak.
