Balchik

Description

Balchik is a pretty resort town located along the Black Sea Coast and features moderate climate. The area was settled by Greeks about 26 centuries ago. The region reached its peak during the 2nd and 3rd centuries. The most prominent landmark in the town is the Balchik Palace built in 1924; it served as the residence of the Romanian Queen. The Botanical Garden in the city is another beautiful place to visit. The City Historical Museum features a large number of exhibits.

Just opposite to the historical museum is the Ethnographic Museum. The museum is located in a house which dates to the Period of Revival. The museum has numerous exhibits like traditional clothes, jewelry, crafts and other items. There is also a beautiful art gallery in Balchik that has several art exhibits. Balchik is best known for its natural scenery and pretty beach which is crowded during the summers. The city also has well-manicured golf courses and beautiful lawns and gardens that are great to spend some time around.

There are several small and big shops dotted all along the main street of Balchik. Every shop features some or the other art and craft form. There are several souvenir shops that sell locally made handicrafts and other items.

The nearest airport to Balchik is the Varna Airport. From the airport visitors can take buses, taxis or private cars to reach Balchik. It takes about 1 hour to reach Balchik from Varna.

Finding halal restaurants in Balchik can be difficult. There are a few places that serve vegetarian dishes. The nearby city of Varna has some good halal restaurants.
