Borovets is among the best holiday destinations in Bulgaria. The largest ski resort in Bulgaria, Borovets attracts thousands of visitors every year. The resort town is located at the base of the Musala Mountain on the northern slopes of the Rila Mountain. The resort is located amidst pine forests and was initially founded as a hunting ground. Gradually the area became popular and hotels and restaurants sprung around.
Today Borovets is a bustling ski resort that offers visitors with all the winter fun and frolic. The slopes offer skiers with excellent conditions for all types of skiers. The Yastrebetz, Markudjik and Sitnyakovo slopes are mainly aimed at mid-level and difficult level skiers. Beginners and intermediate level skiers can enjoy skiing around the Sitnyakovo ski area, located close to the resort area. During the summer season the area becomes a haven for hikers. The area also has facilities of ice skating and snowboarding.
Borovets offers visitors with some good shopping. The street in front of the Rila Hotel is rigged with several shops selling souvenirs, ski rentals and other items.
The nearest airport to Borovets is the Sofia Airport. From Sofia visitors can take buses, taxis, car rentals or private shuttles to reach Borovets.
