A small yet stunning island, Gili Trawangan is located off the coast of Lombok. It is one of the three Gili Islands surrounded by white sands and turquoise waters. The island is best known for its beaches and exciting opportunities for watersports. A unique feature of the beaches on Gili Trawangan is that visitors can sit on the same beach and enjoy views of the sunrise as well as the sunset on the same day. The island is a true beauty and has been developed in an excellent manner.
There is no motor vehicle on the island. Visitors may travel by foot, bicycle, or “Cidomos”—this is what the locals call horsecarts! It can take up to 2.5 hours of coastal walk on the island to take you all around the perimeter of Gili Trawangan. Those interested in diving, snorkeling, surfing, and boat rides can have a blast on the island’s beautiful beaches. Malibu Beach, Sunset Beach, Gili Trawangan Beach, and Coral Beach are some of many that offer beautiful panorama, relaxing atmosphere, and unique attractions for each of them!
There are some good shops on the island that sell beachwear and other local art and craft items. Wonderful shops around the Art Market offer plenty of souvenirs original to Gili Trawangan!
There are no airports in Gili Trawangan. The nearest airport is on the mainland—the Bandara Internasional Lombok. There is a regular Perama service that takes visitors from Senggigi to Gili Trawangan. The ride takes about 2 hours and costs Rp 100,000. Visitors can also opt for speedboat charter Bangsal. There are also a few hotels that offer speedboat pickup.
Gili Trawangan is a Muslim-dominated island and there are numerous halal food stalls and restaurants dotted all over the area. Ko-ko-mo Restaurants, Casa Vintage, Istanbul Kebab, and Warung Sasak are the recommended halal options for visitors to dine in!
There are two mosques in Gili Trawangan. The most prominent mosque on the island is the Masjid Agung Baiturrahman. There is another relatively smaller mosque in Gili Trawangan located close to Masjid Agung Baiturrahman.
