Lamai Beach, located on the eastern coast of Ko Samui, is among the most visited resort areas in Ko Samui. The beach is less crowded, and offers a wide range of accommodation options, along with a relaxed and laidback atmosphere that travellers are sure to love. The areas surrounding Lamai Beach are excellent to explore. Apart from sitting under the sun and relaxing, Lamai Beach offers several interesting activities like jet skiing, swimming, surfing, etc.
There are also several dining and shopping options around the beach that visitors can enjoy. Lamai is surrounded by the best attractions of Ko Samui. Just south of Lamai is the Muslim village of Hua Thanon. For Muslim visitors there are not many halal options around the Lamai Beach but the Muslim village does have some good halal restaurants.
Between Lamai and Hua Thanon are a few unusual rock formations like Hin Ta and Hin Yai. These rocks are visited by most visitors to the island. There is a small beach near these rock formations. The beach is not suitable for swimming but is good for a walk and for cooling off.
Around Lamai Beach there are a few PADI training centers where visitors can learn how to dive and explore the undersea world. Visitors can also enjoy swimming in the waters off the Lamai Beach and also hire a jet ski and explore the waters.
Lamai Beach also offers some good shopping. There are several stalls and stores around the beach area that offer local items, clothing and diving gear. The Lamai Night Plaza is just a few feet away from the beach. The plaza offers everything that visitors may be looking for.
The Ko Samui Airport is the nearest airport to Lamai Beach. Minibuses are available from the airport to Lamai and costa round 150 baht per person. Hiring a private taxi from the airport to Lamai can cost around 300-400 baht.
There are a few halal restaurants in Lamai where visitors can find authentic Thai cuisine and international cuisine. To relish some local food visitors should drive down to the Muslim village of Hua Thanon.
The nearby Muslim village of Hua Thanon has a small mosque, the Masjid Nurulihsan. Visitors can enquire with the locals who can direct them to the mosque.
