Chaweng Beach, locatied on the eastern coast of Koh Samui, is among the largest and the most popular beaches on the island. Spread over 7 kilometers, the beach is sectioned into three areas namely North and Central Chaweng and ChawengNoi. It features fine white sand and a bustling scene where one can see lots of shops surrounding the beach and vendors roaming around selling different items. For Muslim visitors Chaweng Beach offers some decent halal facilities. There are a few known halal restaurants around Chaweng Beach. Chaweng Beach allows people to enjoy a range of water sports and activities. Many people make Chaweng Beach their base for exploring the Angthong National Marine Park and the Ko Tao National Park which are within close reach of the beach.
The unique thing about Chaweng Beach is that there is no road access to the beach it needs to be accessed through hotels that are built along the area. Chaweng Beach is equipped with some excellent facilities for the enjoyment of visitors. Here, one can enjoy jet skiing, kayaking, wind surfing, swimming and several other adventure sports and activities. The southern end of the beach known as ChawengNoi is less crowded and is excellent for swimming. At the northern end of the beach the water is quite shallow and there is a reef just off the shore. This section of the beach is ideal for the kids to swim around. Authorities put out red flags if there are dangerous currents around the waters. Before heading for a swim it is best to check out for any such signs.
Chaweng Beach also has several shops where visitors can buy snacks, fruits, ice-cream, souvenirs and more. There are also henna and tattoo kiosks around the beach. Stalls selling trinkets and handicraft items are also common around Chaweng Beach.
The nearest airport to the Chaweng Beach is the KoSamui Airport. The airport serves regular flights to and from Bangkok and Chiang Mai every day. From the airport Chaweng is just a few minutes away. Taxis are available from the airport to Chaweng and cost around 400 Baht for a one-way trip. Shared mini-buses are available which ply 5 passengers at a time and charge 120 Baht per person.
There are a number of halal restaurants in Chaweng Beach. Some of the halal restaurants in Chaweng Beach include Faria Halal Food Restaurant, Muslim Restaurant, Bang Hasan Samin Restaurant, etc. These restaurants serve excellent Thai cuisine.
The nearest mosque to Chaweng Beach is the Masjid Nurulihsan just 15 minutes away from the beach. It is the only mosque on KohSamui.
