The town of Ait Ben Haddou is a beautiful attraction in itself. Located about 30Km from Ouarzazate, the town is famous for its mud and clay houses. Ait Ben Haddouis a fortified town and has two main entrances, one from the new bridge and one across the Ounila River. Most of the residents of Ait Ben Haddou have shifted to the new village built across the Ounila River; however there are still ten families that reside in the old town.Ait Ben Haddou has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
There are several souvenir shops along the road to the new village. Ait Ben Haddou initially served as a stopover along the caravan route between Sahara and Marrakech. Visitors can get exotic views of the mud village from one of the terraces overlooking the village. There is a Granary located at the summit of the hill and is worth visiting. The mud village makes a picture perfect location and visitors should not forget to carry their cameras.
The nearest major airport to Ait Ben Haddou is the Marrakech-Menara Airport. The airport is located about 105 Km from Ait Ben Haddou. From the airport visitors can take book private tours to Ait Ben Haddou. Buses are also available from Marrakech to Ait Ben Haddou but drop off visitors about 7Km before the town from where visitors have to get a lift to the town.
There is a restaurant available in the newer part of the town at the Hotel la Baraka that serves halal food. There are also several other restaurants in and around Ait Ben Haddou that serve halal food.
There is a mosque in Ait Ben Haddou where visitors can stop for prayers.
