The beautiful town of Bergamo is located about 47 Km from Milan. Finding a picturesque location at the base of the Alps, Bergamo attracts a number of visitors because of its beautiful settings and artistic treasures. The piazzas and the palazzos of Bergamo are quite popular. The entire town is filled with beautiful scenes and boulevards. The town was established during the Roman era on the hill and the farms sprawled on the plains at the base of the hill.
There are a few good museums across Bergamo including the Archaeology Museum, Donizetti Museum and the Science Museum. The GAMeC is the city gallery which features contemporary and modern art work. The botanical garden in the city, the Orto botanico Lorenzo Rota is a beautifully landscaped alpine garden great to visit and relax. The Rocca is a wonderful place with a museum. The Cittadella is the remains of a fortification that was built by the wealthy rulers of Bergamo. Visitors can also enjoy an exciting funicular ride from the Bergamo Bassa to the Bergamo Alta.
Bergamo in no way disappoints shopping lovers. The city is known for featuring lovely fashionable items. The Bergamo Bassa has some excellent shopping streets namely the Via XX Settembre, Via Torquato Tasso, Via Sant’Alessandro and the Viale Papa Giovanni XXIII. The city center too has some wonderful destinations to shop. The Orio Commercial Center has over 200 shops where visitors can find a variety of items.
Bergamo is served by the Orio al Serio International Airport. Visitors can take buses and cabs to reach the town. Buses take around 30-45 minutes to reach the city center. Cabs are a bit expensive but take about 15 minutes to reach the town. A one-way trip to the town costs around 15 Euros.
