There are several districts in the city that have preserved the geisha homes and these districts are lined with pretty little tea houses. Some of the districts good to visit are Nagamachi Samurai District and Higashi-Chayamachi. The Kanazawa Castle Site is where the Kanazawa Castle stood. Visitors can still see the beautiful Ishikawa Gate, which was once the side entrance to the castle. There are also several museums in the city that give visitors a peek into the past and the culture and heritage of the area.
Kanazawa is a wonderful place to shop especially when it comes to art and crafts. The Kenroku-en is lined with several shops selling local items. The Tatemachi shopping street is also a great place to shop. The Belsel Building is a great place for traditional shopping and for observing the otaku culture. The Kohrinbo 109 has numerous shops selling fashionable items.
The nearest airport to Kanazawa is the Komatsu Airport in Komatsu. It is a domestic airport that has flights coming from Tokyo and Okinawa. There are regular buses running from the Komatsu Airport to Kanazawa. These buses leave every 50 minutes and a one-way ticket costs 1100 Yen. Taxis are also available from Kanazawa but can be quite expensive. Visitors can also avail car rentals.
