Nikko

Description

Nikko is a small town known for its historic shrine. The city is the gateway to the Niko National Park which is known for its beautiful landscape and several lakes and waterfalls. The Shinkyo or the red bridge is a historic bridge connecting the shrine to the city. The Tamozawa Imperial Villa Memorial Park is a beautiful park located next to the Nikko Botanical Garden. 

The Nikko National Park has several hiking paths and beautiful landscapes and attractions. The Lake Chuzenji is another beautiful attraction in the city which is a must visit. A walk down the Cedar Avenue of Nikko is highly recommended. The avenue is lined with thousands of cryptomeria trees, which is the national tree of Japan.

Nikko offers some good shopping opportunities, there are several souvenir shops dotted across Nikko where visitors can find local charms and clothing. Antiques also make a good buy in the city.

The nearest major airport to Nikko is the Narita International Airport. The airport is located about 161Km from Nikko. From the airport visitors can take a train to Asakusa and then change to Tobu rapid service to Tobu-Nikko. The total cost can come around 2380 Yen and the total travel time can be about 5 hours. Visitors can also opt for taking car rentals from Narita to Nikko. The travel time is about 2 to 2.5 hours.
