Byron Bay is one of Australia’s premier destinations. It is a beachside town located in the far-northeastern corner of the state of New South Wales. It is a town popular for alternative living, surfing and eco-tourism and is considered the ideal holiday destination. Byron Bay is also well known for its beautiful, undisturbed beaches and other natural attractions. For Muslim visitors traveling to Byron Bay, there aren’t that many Muslim friendly facilities. However, Mosques and Halal restaurants are quite hard but not impossible to find.
Cape Byron is a popular location for whale and dolphin watching. It is part of the 22,000 hectare Cape Byron Marine Park. If lucky, visitors may catch a glimpse of the Humpback as they migrate past in May and June to breed. The area is also well known for the fantastic views of a rainforest and the ocean.
Macadamia Castle is another well known tourist destination in Byron Bay. Macadamia Castle has an animal park, mini golf course, adventure playground, cafe, nut bar, fine food section and retail store located on its premises. Kids can play with the cute and cuddly animals and learn interesting facts about them as well, at the interactive animal experiences program, which is held daily. Macadamia Castle promises to be a fun day out for the entire family.
Broken Head Nature Reserve is home to a wide range of endangered and rare plants and trees. It is a protected area and tree species include Tuckeroo, Broad-leaf Lilly Pilly, Native Elm, Pear Fruited. The reserve was developed to protect the sub-tropical rainforest that grows on the headlands. For those who love nature, this is truly they place to visit. There are walking tracks as well as camping and barbeque facilities.
Byron Bay offers a plethora of shopping options. The Byron Bay Markets is a fabulous way to experience and take in the hustle and bustle of Byron Bay. It is held on the first Sunday of every month and houses numerous stalls. Visitors will find an abundance of locally-grown produce, jewellery, handcrafted wares, clothing and artworks.
The closest airport is The Ballina Byron Gateway Airport (the Byron Bay Airport) which is located in Ballina, 35 km from the center of Byron Bay. The airport has only domestic flights.
There are two other airports in the vicinity; Lismore Airport and Gold Coast Airport. Gold Coast airport is located around 76 km away and has international and domestic flights.
There are only a few Halal restaurants in Byron Bay. Visitors can find Turkish, Middle Eastern, Indian and vegetarian options. Because of the free availability of pork and alcohol, it is best to double check before dining at any restaurant.
Mosques are not easy to find in Byron Bay. The Lismore - Leycester Street BP Musallah is possibly the closest jummah venue. Visitors are advised to make inquiries regarding the location of mosques at the hotel customer service desk.
