The ever-popular beach resort city of Puerto Vallarta is a sought-after tourist destination and caters to masses of tourists every year. The city is located at the bay of Bahía de Banderas, along the Pacific Coast of Mexico. The city spans across an area of over 1,300 square kilometres and is home to a population of over 250,000 inhabitants, making it one of the largest cities in the area.
The history of Puerto Vallarta dates back several years in time and the city was established in the year of 1951. Once a vibrant Mexican village, the city developed rapidly after the expansion of tourism and at present, Puerto Vallarta is a highly renowned destination for its rich culture, pristine beaches, tropical climate and breath-taking natural scenery.
The city is also known by a number of different names - most commonly as Vallarta in short. A few English speakers may also refer to Puerto Vallarta as simply P.V. as well as P.V.R. The city was also once named the Friendliest City in the World to which it still lives up to.
The main airport serving the city of Puerto Vallarta is Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International Airport. The airport is named after the former president of Mexico - Gustavo Díaz Ordaz - and is located towards the north of Puerto Vallarta. It is a busy airport in the country and handles several airlines and millions of passengers every year.
It will be difficult to find Halal food in Puerto Vallarta. Though vegetarian cuisine is available at some restaurants, most dishes require the usage of animal fat and it is highly recommended that Muslim travellers enquire with restaurant owners about the preparation of food prior to dining.
No known mosques in Puerto Vallarta are available. It is best that Muslim travellers use the privacy of their room to pray during prayer times or enquire with locals for a private space in the area that can be made use of.
