One of the most famous sights in Hannover is the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen. Herrenhausen Gardens are gardens that are a heritage of the Kings of Hanover. Located in Herrenhausen, it is made up of the Great Garden, the Berggarten, the Georgengarten and the Welfengarten. The Great Garden is an important and distinguished European baroque garden. The Great Garden is also home to Europe's highest garden fountain. All the gardens date back in history and are some of the most well known attractions in Hannover.
The Hannover Zoo is another popular attraction for kids and adults alike. It is one of the oldest zoos in Germany and houses over 3,414 animals. There are several fun activities that the whole family can get involved in. The zoo also has plenty of animal shows and during animal feeding’s, visitors get to learn more about the animals.
Hannover has several well known shopping malls and an even more famous pedestrian precinct. This pedestrian zone is huge. Bahnhofstrasse, which runs from the main railway station to the central point called Kröpcke, is home to department stores, boutiques, speciality stores major clothing shops, telecommunications providers and several cafes and restaurants. Hannover's largest bookstore can also be found here. If in need for fresh fruits, vegetable, breads, meats and much more, visitors must visit the Hannover Market Hall. Hannover is also home to one of the biggest and oldest Flea markets in Germany. The flea market is held every Saturday and people come from all over Germany to sell and buy a wide variety of items.
In addition to the above, tourists must take a stroll through the Old Town. The sights are unique and spectacular. Hannover was also affected during World War 2 and the Aegidienkirche is a great reminder of this. The Church was destroyed during the war and was not rebuilt. Its ruins were kept as a war memorial. It is another prominent attraction in Hannover.
Located in Langenhagen, 11 km north of the centre of Hanover, is the Hannover Airport. It is the international airport of Hanover and is the ninth largest airport in Germany. The airport is easily accessible by rail, car and bus.
