Not located far from the Pundon Airport, Minhang is among the best districts of Shanghai. The area is mostly residential but also is home to a number of factories and production facilities. Spanning along both the areas of the Huangpu River, Mihang is also the location of the Qibao water town. The Qibao area is quite picturesque with a number of water canals and several old buildings. Qibao gives visitors a feel of the past.
Minhang also has two important universities, the Shanghai Jiaotong University and the East China Normal University. The campuses of these universities are located in the southern part of the district and cater to the educational needs of the area. The Minhang district encompasses 9 towns and around 3 sub-districts. Maqiao is also a part of the district and has held the Shanghai ATP Masters Tennis Tournament. Maqiao is also home to the Neolithic ruins of Maqiao.
The district of Minhang offers some good shopping opportunities. There are several local markets around the area that can be seen selling local handicrafts and items of daily needs. The town of Qibao is excellent for shopping. It has numerous large shopping malls, one above the metro station, two across Lianhua Lu and one close to the Xinzhuang station.
There are two major airports close to Minhang; the Hongqiao Airport (domestic) and the Pudong Airport (International). From both the airports there are excellent highways that connect to the Minhang district. Buses and taxis are available at both the airports. Visitors can also take the metro line to reach Minhang.
There are a few halal restaurants in the Minhang District where Muslim visitors can dine. The ShangHai Shiraz Restaurant serves halal food and is located on the Hongmei Road in the Minhang District.
The closest mosque to the Minhang District is the Songjiang Mosque in Songjiang. Other mosques close to Minhang include the Huxi Mosque, Shanghai Pudong Mosque, etc.
