Jabal al Nour or the Mountain of Light, situated in Saudi Arabia’s Hejaz region, is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Makkah. Although visiting the mountain is not prescribed as a ritual for pilgrims, a visit to Makkah is definitely not complete without a visit to the mountain, at least once in a lifetime. The mountain houses the cave of Hira; which is of great significance to Muslims around the world, as it was here that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) received the first revelation from Allah through Angel Jibreel. Although Jabal al Nour is only 640 metres high and the cave is quite small, the climb can be extremely strenuous, and it may take up to two hours to make the climb. Those planning on making the climb should visit during dawn or in the evening to avoid the extreme heat during the day.

Tourists visiting Jabal al Nour are advised to ask their tour guide to take them to the nearest mosque when required.

Muslim visitors will find that locating Halal food in Makkah is not a problem as the restaurants are Muslim-friendly and serve only Halal cuisine. Visitors will be spoilt for choice when in Makkah or any other city in Saudi Arabia, as the varieties of cuisines available in these cities are numerous.
