With origins that date back to the 2nd Century BC, the Fethiye Amphitheatre is considered to be a treasure in the region and is one of the most visited attractions in Fethiye. The site was once a massive theatre that was capable of accommodating up to 6000 people and ancient structures of Roman columns and crumbling stone seats can still be identified amidst the ruins. Though the site was discovered only during the late 1990s, it is considered to be a prominent landmark in Fethiye and plans are being made to excavate and tidy up the Fethiye Amphitheatre with hopes of restoring its majestic appeal.
