One of the most popular tourist attractions in York is the York Dungeon. Offering 12 live shows with 75 minutes of on-the-edge entertainment, the York Dungeon is an actor led experience depicting the history of the dungeon. This unique attraction involves theatrical actors, stages, special effects, and scenes, and is funny and scary at the same time. Visitors get to follow the story of the darkest history of York, moving from show to show. The story is based on real facts and the experience involves authentic sets, and visitors getting up close and personal with characters from York's gruesome past like Eric Bloodaxe, Guy Fawkes and Dick Turpin. This fully themed experience involves visiting Castle Prison, coming face to face with the blood-thirsty Vikings of York and hearing about notorious highwayman Dick Turpin. Shows and attractions here include Cliffords Tower, Plague, Guy Fawkes, Ghost of York, Lost Roman Legion Labyrinth, Eric Bloodaxe, the Torturer, the Judge, Execution, Dick Turpin and Witches. Although the York Dungeon will not be a good attraction to take little kids to, teenagers are sure to enjoy the unique experience.

The York Dungeon does not offer prayer facilities for Muslim visitors. Muslims visiting the attraction will therefore have to offer their prayer at one of the mosques in the city, such as the York Mosque & Islamic Centre and the York Muslim Association. Muslim visitors can ask staff at the attraction to guide them to one of the above mentioned prayer facilities when needed.
The York Dungeon does not have a restaurant or café within its premises. There are however a variety of snacks and drinks available. The city of York is home to a couple of Halal restaurants, due to its small Muslim population. Muslim visitors can therefore ask to be directed to one of these restaurants if necessary.
