A must-visit for every individual visiting Washington is the Smithsonian Institution; the world’s largest museum and research complex, home to 19 museums and galleries as well as the National Zoological Park. 17 of these are located in Washington, while the rest are in New York City and Chantilly, Virginia. Visitors can start off by making a stop at the Smithsonian Institution Building to pick up a guide to all of the museums and galleries. Since there are quite a number of attractions here, it is best for tourists to pick ones that interest them the most. The Anacostia Community Museum, the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, the Arts and Industries Building, the Cooper Hewitt - Smithsonian Design Museum, the Freer Gallery of Art, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, the Air and Space Museum, the Air and Space Museum Udvar-Hazy Center, the African American History and Culture Museum, the African Art Museum, the American History Museum and the American Indian Museum are some of the museums and galleries that make up the Smithsonian Institution. The most popular ones are however the Air & Space Museum, the American History Museum and the Natural History Museum, so tourists must make it a point to visit at least one of the three. Most of the museums offer interactive and educational exhibits that will keep kids and adults occupied for hours.

Muslim visitors will not be able to find prayer facilities at any of the museums and galleries. They will therefore have to make use of the services offered at one of the many mosques in the city, such as the Islamic Center of Washington, Masjid Al-Hikma, Idriss Mosque and the Islamic Center of Kent.
Visitors should be able to find a couple of eateries at some of the museums and galleries. The National Zoo also has quite a number of cafés. While these establishments will not be Halal certified, many of them are sure to serve vegetarian and seafood options. For those looking specifically for Halal certified restaurants, there are quite a number in Washington.
