Said to be one of the most popular attractions in Santiago de Compostela, Plaza del Obradoiro; one of the best preserved squares in Spain, and one of the most beautiful in the world, is therefore a must-visit for all tourists. Located in the heart of the medieval city, the lively Plaza del Obradoiro is surrounded by numerous buildings of different, exquisite architecture. The Santiago de Compostela Cathedral, the Catholic Kings Hostel, the Rajoy Palace; which is now the City Hall, and the city’s university all surround the square. Plaza del Obradoiro is a gathering point for pilgrims, as the Cathedral is the destination of a pilgrimage route. It is also the largest of its kind in the whole of Galicia and is therefore used for a variety of events ranging from religious gatherings to functions for the public.

There are no known mosques in the city of Santiago de Compostela. The city does however have a few small Islamic communities and an Islamic center, known as the Islamic community of Galicia. Muslim tourists looking for prayer facilities in Santiago could therefore get more information from here, or they will have to offer their prayers in the hotel room when required.
Unlike most major cities in Spain, Santiago de Compostela is not home to any known Halal restaurants. Muslims visiting the city will therefore have to dine on vegetarian and seafood dishes at one of the local non-Halal restaurants after ensuring the dishes do not contain any non-Halal ingredients. They could also get more information regarding the availability of Halal food in the area from the Islamic community of Galicia.
