Located between the Old Town of San Sebastian and the Paseo Nuevo, in the centre of San Sebastian is Monte Urgull. Here, visits will find a preserved ancient city with historical paths, military buildings and fortifications; some of which date back to the 12th century and therefore offer great insight into the wars that people living in San Sebastian braved. Castillo de la Mota or La Mota Castle is one of these historic fortifications found on Monte Urgull. Inside this castle, visitors will find a fascinating exhibition on San Sebastian’s past and displays of local history. On display are various historic pictures, a collection of guns, as well as original pieces that have been reconstructed, and engravings. The mountain also offers impressive views of both the sea and the surrounding land.

There will not be any prayer facilities on Monte Urgull or inside Castillo de la Mota, but there is plenty of space outdoors for Muslims to offer their prayers. Muslim tourists could also use the facilities offered at the well-known Masjid De Renteria in the city of San Sebastian, when needed.
It is unknown if there are any cafés or snack bars on Monte Urgull. Visitors are therefore advised to take along some snacks and have a picnic while there. If unable to do so, they could also ask the locals or staff at the castle to guide them to the nearest Halal restaurant.
