Originally known as Tangi Te Keo in Māori, Mount Victoria towers over the east of Wellington at a height of 196 metres. It is often referred to as simply Mount Vic by locals and is well-known for being an excellent lookout point. Mount Victoria Lookout offers spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding city and landscape and has been a location for many movies in the past - including the famous The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Travellers will be able to take in sweeping views of Tinakori Hill, Hut Valley and Eastern harbour bays, Matiu/Somes Island and the Miramar Peninsula in the distance, with a wealth of photography opportunities on offer. The area is the ideal spot for a picnic to just sit back and unwind, while watching the ships sail into the harbour.
