The Rumassala Hill - also known as the ‘Buona Vista’ - is a site which is associated with many legends. According to the great Hindu epic and legendary chronicle, the Ramayana, Rumassala Hill is said to be a mountain fragment of the Himalayan mountain range in India, growing an abundance of medicinal herbs. The hill provides some of the most spectacular views of the coast in the area and offers plenty of photography opportunities - particularly at sunset and sunrise. Rumassala is also home to a temple - Japanese Peace Pagoda - as well as the bungalow of the world-renowned scientist and futurist - Sir Arthur C. Clerk. Rumassala is found about 4 kilometres towards the west of the town and is worth a visit - particularly for its breathtaking views it provides of its surroundings.

Though Halal food in Unawatuna is relatively difficult to find, there are a few Muslim-owned resorts that serve Halal food. For more dining options, Muslim travellers can visit some of the prominent Halal restaurants in Galle such as the Crêpe-ology Restaurant and the Indian Hut which are both located within the Galle Fort.
