The Martin Wickramasinghe Folk Museum is the house of Martin Wickramasinghe - one of Sri Lanka's best known novelists who is considered to be the author of some of the greatest work of Sinhalese fiction. The restored house provides an insight into his literature and features collections of photographs and other personal belongings of Martin Wickramasinghe. Museum exhibits range from puppets to mask costumes to other interesting instruments. The museum also houses a range of artefacts from folk dances and cultural ceremonies, allowing visitors to get a better understanding of Sri Lanka's fascinating folk culture. The museum includes a bookshop where Wickramasinghe's works can be purchased and a visit is recommended for travellers who are sight-seeing in Unawatuna.

The folk dance artefacts
Though designated prayer facilities at the Martin Wickramasinghe Folk Museum will not be available for Muslim travellers, private area will be available around the museum premises to make use of during prayer times. Finding a mosque in Unawatuna can be difficult and Muslim travellers who wish to visit a mosque will need to go to some of the mosques in Galle which are located not too far away.
Though Halal food in Unawatuna is relatively difficult to find, there are a few Muslim-owned resorts that serve Halal food. For more dining options, Muslim travellers can visit some of the prominent Halal restaurants in Galle such as the Crêpe-ology Restaurant and the Indian Hut which are both located within the Galle Fort.
