The Unawatuna Beaches are considered to be some of the best beaches in the world. The beach was named the "The Best Beach in the World" in 2004 and is one of the most well-known beaches in the country. The beautiful beach is fringed by shady palm trees and the powdery white sand shores offer the perfect ambience for beach lovers to simply unwind and relax. The beach area is also quite popular for its water sports and activities such as surfing, snorkelling, diving and swimming are fairly common. The beach stretches on for around 4 kilometres and is in close proximity to a wide range of accommodation options - be it luxury resorts or budget hotels. It is also considered to be one of the safest beaches in Sri Lanka and is a must-visit for all beach-lovers.

Plenty of open space is available around the beach area for Muslim travellers to use during prayer times. Finding a mosque in Unawatuna can be difficult and Muslim travellers who wish to visit a mosque will need to go to some of the mosques in Galle which are located not too far away. The Meera Mosque is the most prominent mosque in Galle and is located within the Galle Fort.
Though Halal food in Unawatuna is relatively difficult to find, there are a few Muslim-owned resorts that serve Halal food. For more dining options, Muslim travellers can visit some of the prominent Halal restaurants in Galle such as the Crêpe-ology Restaurant and the Indian Hut which are both located within the Galle Fort.
