Opened in 1992, Kobe Harborland is a large-scale shopping and recreation district and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Kobe. It was originally built as a cultural hub and currently features a multitude of shopping complexes, department stores, restaurants, amusement parks, markets and various family fashion outlets. Enclosed by both the sea shore and lush greenery, Kobe Harborland offers a number of sight-seeing opportunities including the pier, the pedestrian bridge and seaside sightseeing spots. The district is especially beautiful during the night time when the streets light up with old fashioned gas street lighting, illuminating the entire area with a soft, radiant glow.
