The Black Dragon Pool - also known as Heilongtan - is located in close proximity to the Longquan Hill and is almost 20 kilometres away from the Kunming centre. It is visited by locals and tourists alike throughout the year. The Black Dragon Pool is a prominent site and attraction in the area and is also in the vicinity of several other attractions such as the Black Dragon Palace, the three ancient trees - the Tang Dynastic Plum, the Song Dynastic Cypress and the Ming Dynastic Camellia, as well as the Pavilion of Stele. A number of legends and folklore are also associated with the Black Dragon Pool and a visit is highly recommended for visitors sight-seeing in the area.

Though private designated prayer facilities at Black Dragon Pool will be unavailable for Muslim travellers, plenty of open space will be available in the vicinity to make use of during prayer times. Muslim travellers may also visit the only mosque of the city – the Lijiang Great Mosque - located at the Old Town of Lijiang.
Halal food near Black Dragon Pool may be unavailable, but Muslim travellers could visit some of the Halal restaurants in Lijiang such as the Haji Beef Restaurant and the Muslim Ya Yuan which are considered to be two of the best Halal food spots in the city.
