One of the most exquisite vistas is the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon. This is located in the ZonaSul or the South zone area of Rio de Janeiro. This lagoon overlooks the Atlantic ocean. It is encircled by a 7.2 km path, that any passer-by can take a stroll along. In addition to this is the bike stand in the east side of the lake for guests who want to cycle around the serene beauty. Paddle boats are available for rowing in the lagoon. The lagoon sits in the heart of the district Ipanama, Leblon, Gávea, JardimBotânico, Copacabana, Botafogo, and Humaitá. This spot is an highlight during the Christmas season due to the giant Christmas tree that floats around the lagoon. Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon easily gets affected by environmental issues either as land or water pollution. There are fish surviving around the banks but the lagoon is almost always losing its fish due to the algae proliferation that eats up all the oxygen. During the Olympics in 2016 rowing events will take place at this lagoon which will become a top tourist location. There are health risks for the athletes who take part in rowing activities in the lagoon due to the dirt in the lagoon.
