A trip to Tavira is definitely incomplete without a visit to Praia da Ilha de Tavira, a beach located on the eastern edge of the Ilha de Tavira. The sandy island stretches for 10 kilometres and separates the Ria Formosa from the Atlantic Ocean. To reach the island, visitors can take one of the regular ferries from the city of Tavira. Considered to be one of the best and most popular beaches in southern Europe, Praia da Ilha de Tavira features calm waters and a massive expanse of sand. It also features a campsite and a variety of cafés and restaurants. For those interested in exploring the Ria Formosa, there are sightseeing cruises operating from Tavira.

While Muslims visiting Praia da Ilha de Tavira will not be able to find prayer facilities, they should be able to find a clean and quite place on the beach to offer their prayers. Since there are no known mosques or Islamic Centers in the city of Tavira, visitors will have to return to their hotel rooms at prayer times, if unable to locate a secluded area.
As mentioned above, Praia da Ilha de Tavira does have a few restaurants and cafés. While Muslim tourists will not be able to find Halal certified food at any of these outlets, they will definitely be able to find suitable seafood and vegetarian dishes. There are also no known Halal restaurants in the city of Tavira.
