One of the top places to visit when in Porto is the popular Cais da Ribeira. Located on the banks of the Douro River, this attractive district is one of the most picturesque parts of the city. The area is known for its myriad of narrow streets and winding alleyways and spectacular ancient buildings. The riverside promenade also boasts a few important landmarks such as the Palácio da Bolsa, and features a variety of wonderful pastel-hued buildings along with a plethora of fantastic cafés and restaurants. The lively riverfront square of Praça da Ribeira is a must-visit as it is where locals come together to socialize and relax, thus making it a great place to people watch. Visitors must therefore make it a point to wander the neighborhood’s narrow streets, walk past the colorful buildings, dine at one of its several cafés and observe the traditional boats floating on the river.

Muslim tourists will be able to find a couple of mosques and Islamic Centres in the city of Porto, such as the Centro Cultural Islamico do Porto. When in Cais da Ribeira, they can therefore ask the locals to direct them to the nearest mosque when needed, or if possible to find a secluded place, they could offer their prayers outdoors.
As mentioned above, visitors to Cais da Ribeira will have no problem locating a great restaurant. The cafés and restaurants located here are however sure to serve non-Halal dishes. Muslim tourists can either dine on seafood and vegetarian dishes at these outlets, or they can visit one of the several Halal restaurants in the city.
