Just a short distance from Cat Ba town is the Cannon Fort; a fort built atop a 177 metre-high hill, during the French era. While this historical site has a fascinating story, it is also known to offer one of the best views in Vietnam. Used as a defense and lookout point, visitors to Cannon Fort will come across cannon bunkers, guns and underground tunnel systems, as well as rooms containing propaganda photos and other memorabilia. There is also a telescope at the East observatory that provides visitors with breathtaking views of Lan Ha bay and the surrounding area. While this attraction is highly recommended for all tourists visiting Cat Ba, it is best avoided by those with leg problems, as visitors will have about a 20 minute walk uphill, from the entrance to the fort.

The cannons, memorabilia, and the stunning view
Cannon Fort does not offer prayer facilities for Muslim visitors. Muslims visiting the attraction might however be able to find a clean and quiet area outdoors to offer their prayers. There are also no known mosques in Cat Ba town, so if unable to locate a secluded area, tourists will have to return to their accommodation at prayer times.
There is a great café and juice bar located at Cannon Fort. After exploring the attraction, tourists can relax and get a bite to eat here, all the while enjoying the fantastic scenery. While Muslim tourists will not be able to find Halal food at this eatery, there should be vegetarian and seafood dishes on the menu.
