The resort area of Ilica is located towards the west of Turkey, around 5 kilometres away from Çeşme. Ilica Çeşme was a popular summer retreat in the late 19th century for the upper-class community of Izmir and is currently a key tourist attraction in Çeşme. The area is well-known for its beautiful beaches and thermal springs - some of which are located in the sea. Swimming at the Ilica beach is believed to have healing properties for the skin and travellers may also visit some of the mud baths around the area that are believed to have positive effects on rheumatism and gynaecological problems. Windsurfing and other water sports are also popular activities in Ilica. The area is often host to annual world windsurfing championships and is an internationally reputed windsurfing destination.
