Located off the coast of County Sligo in Donegal Bay is the mysterious Inishmurray Island. This 228 acre island is now abandoned but it was once inhabited by just over 100 people in 1880. While the island is known for housing the remains of an Irish monastic settlement, it is also a wildlife sanctuary of national importance. Visitors to the island are sure to see a variety of marine birds such as arctic tern, eider duck, kittiwakes and great black-backed gull, as well as unique species of flora. They will also come across what is left of the island’s village. The island is only accessed via boats which can be found a short drive from Sligo Town.

While Muslims visiting Inishmurray Island will not be able to find prayer facilities at the attraction, they will be able to locate a clean and quiet place outdoors to offer their prayers. Visitors could also make use of the facilities offered at the Globe House Muslim Community, which is the only known prayer facilities in Sligo.
Visitors will not find any food outlets on Inishmurray Island. It is however the perfect setting to enjoy a picnic, so visitors should therefore take along all the necessities. Also, since Sligo Town is not known to house any Halal restaurants, Muslim tourists will have to dine on suitable seafood and vegetarian dishes since non-Halal ingredients are sure to be widely used.
