Dunmore Cave

Description

Dunmore Cave, located a short drive outside of Kilkenny city is of scientific and historical interest and is therefore a popular attraction. Said to be one of Ireland’s most fascinating caves, it is divided into a series of chambers which were formed millions of years ago, and is known to contain some of the finest calcite formations found in Ireland. It is also said to be the site of a Viking massacre, and items like historic coins, tools and bones dating back to the 10th century were unearthed here. Visitors to the cave will come across these excavated items at the Visitor Centre. Access to the cave is granted only if visitors join a guided tour.

Prayer Facilities

Although Dunmore Cave does not have prayer facilities for Muslims, visitors requiring these facilities could find a secluded place outdoors to offer their prayers. There is also one known mosque in the city of Kilkenny - the Kilkenny Islamic Centre. Muslim tourists can therefore ask staff at the cave to guide them to this mosque when needed. 

Halal Food

Visitors to Dunmore Cave will have to dine at one of the restaurants in Kilkenny city, as the attraction does not have a food outlet. Muslims could dine on suitable vegetarian and seafood dishes at a local non-Halal restaurant, or they could visit one of the few Halal restaurants in the city.
