The largest city in Mexico, Mexico City is the capital of the country and is an important hub for politics, culture, education and finance in the North American continent. The "alpha" global city is located in a large valley at the centre of the country known as the Valley of Mexico or Valle de México, at an altitude of over 7,000 feet. It has been separated into 16 delegaciones or boroughs for administrative purposes which are in turn divided into further colonias or neighborhoods. r\n

The city is home to over 8 million inhabitants and is also the world's largest Spanish speaking country. Though the majority of the population is Roman Catholic in faith, a small but diverse Muslim community resides in the town. The history of Islam in Mexico dates back several years and traces of Muslim influences can still be witnessed in the city. r\n

Mexico City occupies a land area of over 1,400 square kilometres and is one of the most densely populated areas in the world. It also offers numerous sights and attractions such as The Plaza de la Constitución, Palacio Nacional (National Palace), Templo Mayor (Great Temple), Palacio de Bellas Artes (Fine Arts Palace), Museo Nacional de Antropologia (National Anthropology museum), Xochimilco, Museo Frida Kahlo, Teotihuacan and the Basilica de Guadalupe.
